Pancake Party

Our recent Pancake Party was another opportunity to bless our local community. On Shrove Tuesday (5th February), the churches of Brentford got together under the banner of Soul in Brentford to host another ‘Pancake Party’ with a variety of themed games such as toss the pancake, lemon skittles (those lemons just don’t roll straight!) a colouring competition and a quiz. Then we all got together for a short film and reminder of the origins of Pancake Day followed by pancake for all with tasty toppings!

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday (which is the first day of Lent). Many Christians all over the world use the period of Lent as a time of fasting and preparation for Easter when we remember the death of Jesus on the cross and celebrate his resurrection. Traditionally, as people fast (often giving up rich food and treats) during Lent, they would use up all their ‘goodies’ the night before and there we have it – pancakes!

If you want to find out more about Easter and Jesus’ own fast for 40 days in the desert, why not look up in the bible?
